What is Fine Art Nude?
It is a genre of photography, depicting the human body, with the emphasis on compositional and aesthetic qualities. Erotica, while sometimes present, is a secondary result. It’s shape, form, lights and shadows. Traditionally, fine art nude is a genre associated with male photographers. The group, this time, was five female photogaphers, under the mentoring eye of Mark Hillyer.
Fine Art can never exist without naked beauty displayed. William Blake
Apart from Deanne, our hostess, none of us had shot nudes before. Chey Anne, our model, was the epitome of patience and skill, dealing with 4 ‘newbies’. Newbies, who, while keen to learn, had no idea how to shoot nudes. Fortunately Mark did. He guided us, made suggestions, offered advice, and drew our ideas out of us. All the while, Chey smiled, and followed our fledging posing requests. Julie Powell had Chey posing with feather boa’s and angel wings… Beck had her in a tutu…
We raided Deanne’s cavernous props room, then settled in, and taking turns, shot for the next couple of hours. Props were changed and swapped around. Lighting configurations altered to suit the different moods. Sometimes deferring to, and always absorbing Mark’s advice. Laughed a lot in our (almost) all female enviroment. And promised to do it all again.
