Mad Hatter Tea Party

A shoot that had been in planning stages for quite some time finally rolled around in June… based on the inspiration that it was a Mad Hatters Tea Party for the Hatter and his friends… with the food and drinks being more ‘adult’.

We had eight characters being portrayed by seven models… Mad Hatter, Alice, Blue Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat, Red Queen, White Rabbit, Tweedledum and Tweedledee being played by the same person and composited with the magic of Photoshop.  Five photographers from The Darkroom  Mark Busittil, Pio Marcelaine, Deanne Holmer, Suzanne Balding and myself took part in the shoot, working different areas of the room with different characters.

Props were being made behind the scenes in the weeks leading up… cakes were made.. lights set up… makeup, hair and body paint started early with touch ups happening as the day went on… our models were made up off site and the Cheshire cat did get some odd looks as people drove beside her as she headed to the location.

We’re all vulnerable. Mix the wrong feelings together, the right kind of bad with the wrong kind of good, and you’ll wind up with a total breakdown… The Blue Caterpillar, Alice S1Ep2

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked. “Oh you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” Lewis Carroll, Through The Looking Glass

It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” Alice, Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. Which luckily I am –  The Hatter, Alice In Wonderland 2010

“Alice:How long is forever? White Rabbit: Sometimes, just one second.” Lewis Carrol, Alice In Wonderland

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” ― The Red Queen,  Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

“Contrariwise,’ continued Tweedledee, ‘if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn’t, it ain’t. That’s logic.”― Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

What an amazing concept Bev. I love the different perspective on Alice. Great shots. Any chance of doing this with VPC as I would love to try it myself.
